Make and Wonder was founded by Nicola Kirk. Nicola is a primary school teacher, and is passionate about children being able to lead their own play. Nicola began her obsession with children's creativity during her visit to Reggio Emilia, where she was inspired by the powerful learning that happens when children are given time to investigate and explore interesting open-ended resources.
Since becoming a mum, she noticed that her eldest daughter’s creative confidence really changed when she started school and she became afraid to explore and make mistakes. She went from creating huge hanging sculptures at home to feeling like she couldn’t draw. Nicola wanted to create open-ended opportunities for children to explore and create that would support children’s confidence in exploring and making mistakes. Nicola started making creative kits based on artists, full of resources inspired by the artists work alongside little stories about each artist.
These creative kits then became focused on creative female role models, after Nicola soon discovered that so many creative woman are unknown to us all. From there the monthly Art club was born. A monthly box that highlights a creative female combined with inspiring open-ended ideas.
